Al Haouz: Mud wall collapses on vegetable seller at Tuesday market in Aït Ourir

The weekly market of Tuesday in Aït Ourir, Al Haouz province, witnessed a serious incident involving the collapse of a mud wall onto a vegetable seller, in an event that once again highlights the dangers posed by dilapidated buildings within spaces that experience intensive daily movement by traders and visitors.
A photograph circulated from the scene shows a vendor amidst the rubble that collapsed onto his goods, while individuals intervened to assist him and clear the surrounding soil and stones.
Upon being notified of the incident, local authority personnel and the Royal Gendarmerie rushed to the scene, where the necessary measures were taken, while the injured person was transferred to hospital to receive the requisite medical treatment.
As a reminder, mud-built walls become more susceptible to cracking and collapse when they become saturated with earth and moisture, particularly following the heavy rainfall witnessed in the Aït Ourir area over recent days, which necessitates paying special attention to buildings and walls at risk of falling.
In view of these hazards, the importance emerges of stepping up operations to monitor ageing walls within weekly markets, and taking the necessary preventive measures to protect the lives of vendors and customers, in order to avoid accidents whose consequences could be severe.
