Asfi: 18-Year-Old Man Dies in Drowning Tragedy, Investigation Underway

A tragic incident on Asfi’s coastline

An 18-year-old man lost his life on Sunday evening, June 28, 2026, after drowning in the sea behind the fish canning factories south of the city of Asfi. The tragic incident left residents and beachgoers deeply shocked.

Swept away by strong waves while swimming

According to local sources, the victim had gone to the beach to enjoy a swim when he was suddenly swept away by powerful waves. Despite struggling to stay afloat, he was unable to reach safety and ultimately drowned.

Volunteer diver recovers the body

The same sources reported that volunteer diver Noureddine El Aqiqi successfully recovered the victim’s body in less than an hour using his own diving equipment. He is well known in Asfi for participating in numerous recovery operations and has reportedly retrieved twelve drowning victims from the city’s coastline to date.

Body transferred to the morgue as investigation begins

Following the recovery operation, Civil Protection teams transported the victim’s body to the local morgue under instructions from the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
