Morocco to End Daylight Saving Time and Return to GMT from Late Summer 2026

Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch announced on Thursday that Morocco will officially return to its legal time zone (GMT) and discontinue the use of the additional hour (GMT+1), starting from late summer 2026.

Speaking to the media, Akhannouch explained that the decision follows a series of consultations and meetings held within the governing coalition, during which concerns about the continued use of GMT+1 were repeatedly raised due to its impact on citizens’ daily lives.

The Prime Minister stated that the move comes in response to the expectations and demands of many Moroccans, emphasizing that the government remains committed to listening to citizens and addressing issues that directly affect their everyday routines.

The decision is expected to bring an end to years of public debate surrounding the permanent adoption of GMT+1, a topic that has long divided public opinion across the country.
