Marrakech: Fireworks Dealer Arrested, Over 1,500 Explosive Items Seized Ahead of Ashura

As part of a proactive security operation ahead of Ashura celebrations, police officers in the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali district of Marrakech arrested a repeat offender suspected of possessing and distributing illegal fireworks and firecrackers.

The suspect was apprehended following close surveillance at Al Moussalla Square, where judicial police officers caught him red-handed selling hazardous pyrotechnic materials to children and minors. The practice has recently sparked growing concern among residents due to the noise disturbances and potential safety risks associated with their use.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the seizure of approximately 1,500 fireworks and firecrackers of various sizes and types, which were allegedly intended for distribution through informal markets across the city.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Marrakech police authorities to combat the illegal trade of pyrotechnic products and to safeguard public safety and community peace during the Ashura period.
