Marrakech to Host the 6th National Amateur Theatre Festival as Official Competition Line-Up is Announced

Eight theatre troupes from across Morocco selected to compete in the national event
As preparations continue for the sixth edition of the National Amateur Theatre Festival, scheduled to take place in Marrakech from June 23 to 27, 2026, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication – Department of Culture – has announced the results of the selection committee responsible for choosing the productions that will compete in the festival’s official competition.
The announcement follows meetings held on May 15 and 16, 2026, at the Directorate of Arts headquarters in Rabat, attended by leading professionals and stakeholders from Morocco’s theatre sector.
39 Applications Received from Across the Kingdom
According to the ministry, the selection committee reviewed a total of 39 applications submitted by amateur theatre groups representing various regions of Morocco. The strong participation reflects the vitality of the country’s amateur theatre movement and its growing contribution to Morocco’s cultural and artistic landscape.
The selection process was based on a set of objective criteria, including prioritizing genuinely amateur theatre companies not affiliated with the professional sector, while also assessing the artistic quality of each project through its script, directing, acting performance, and technical and production standards.

Following the evaluation process, eight theatre companies were selected to participate in the official competition of the festival’s sixth edition:
- Apuleius Theatre Company (Association of Central Theatre, Ouazzane) with Sakarat.
- Jil Al Founoun Association (Marrakech) with Al Malsoua Bikalam.
- Al Nada Academy for Performing Arts (Inzegane) with Tilad.
- Metamorphose Theatre Company, affiliated with Al Jawhara Association for Cultural and Artistic Development (Salé), with Jasad.

Continued Support for Amateur Theatre and Cultural Creativity
In its statement, the ministry praised all theatre groups that applied to participate in this year’s edition, commending the spirit of creativity, commitment, and initiative demonstrated by amateur theatre practitioners throughout the Kingdom.
The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting amateur theatre as a key platform for discovering emerging artistic talent and promoting cultural diversity and creativity across Morocco.
