A strategic partnership in Marrakech brings together technology and art to promote Morocco’s heritage
On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the city of Marrakech witnessed a significant milestone in Morocco’s tourism innovation with the announcement of a strategic partnership for the digital application “Maroc en Sac à Dos.” The project aims to offer an immersive and interactive way to discover Morocco’s rich cultural heritage through modern technology.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of the Marrakech-Safi Region, attended by institutional representatives and media professionals. During the event, artist Hamza Sultan officially joined the initiative as a partner and ambassador, strengthening the project’s public outreach.
A new way to experience Morocco’s heritage
Created by Salim El Merini and technically developed by Mohamed El Morshed, “Maroc en Sac à Dos” goes beyond the concept of a traditional travel guide. The application relies on gamification to transform visits to Moroccan cities into interactive adventures that combine culture, history and entertainment.
Users are invited to solve puzzles, follow digital routes and explore historic neighborhoods, monuments and cultural landmarks through engaging and educational experiences.
Marrakech, the starting point of a nationwide project
Marrakech has been selected as the first destination for the initiative because of its historical and tourism significance. The project is expected to expand to other regions, including Fez, Agafay and Morocco’s desert areas, showcasing the country’s rich cultural and geographical diversity.
The application also seeks to reconnect younger generations with Morocco’s heritage through digital technologies while promoting sustainable cultural tourism for both domestic and international visitors.
Digital innovation driving Morocco’s tourism sector
This initiative highlights the growing role of digital innovation in shaping Morocco’s tourism industry. By combining technology with cultural heritage, the project offers visitors a modern and engaging travel experience while contributing to the preservation and promotion of the country’s historical assets.
The strong institutional and media presence during the announcement further reflects the increasing recognition of youth-led innovative projects as a key driver of Morocco’s tourism development and international attractiveness.
