Imzouren under tight security: Armed confrontation leaves police officer dead as suspects appear before prosecutor

The city of Imzouren has witnessed major security and judicial developments after several suspects were brought before the Public Prosecutor General at the Al Hoceima Court of Appeal on Wednesday morning, following a security operation that resulted in the death of a police officer and injuries to several members of the public forces and a civilian.
🔴 A suspect described as “dangerous”
The case dates back to September 7, 2026, when judicial police officers launched an operation to arrest an individual described by the prosecution as “dangerous.”
The suspect was the subject of several nationwide wanted notices over alleged involvement in a number of serious offences, including hard-drug trafficking, forming a criminal gang, organizing illegal immigration and attempted murder using a firearm.
⚫ Arrest operation turns into armed confrontation
According to official information, the suspect confronted the judicial police officers with a hunting rifle, opening fire in their direction during the attempted arrest.
The confrontation resulted in the death of a police officer, who succumbed to his serious injuries. Two gendarmes and a civilian were also injured, according to the prosecution.
The main suspect was himself shot in the leg after security officers were forced to use their service weapons in self-defense, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
⚠️ Prosecutor’s Office rejects circulating claims
The incident was followed by the circulation of several accounts on social media concerning the circumstances surrounding the police officer’s death.
One of the claims suggested that the officer had been fatally shot by one of his colleagues.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office rejected this account, stressing that the officer was injured during an armed confrontation with the suspect, who allegedly used a hunting rifle while resisting arrest.
🚔 Attempt to obstruct the arrest
Official information also indicates that several individuals allegedly belonging to the same criminal gang attempted to intervene in order to obstruct the arrest operation.
According to the prosecution, they arrived in two vehicles and used a hunting rifle, firing shots in the direction of the judicial police officers.
Security forces eventually managed to bring the situation under control and arrest those involved.
⚖️ The case now moves into the judicial phase
The appearance of the suspects before the Public Prosecutor General marks a new stage in the case. The final determination of their responsibilities and the charges against them will depend on the findings of the ongoing judicial investigation.
The Imzouren case once again highlights the risks posed by armed confrontations involving organized criminal networks, as the investigation continues to uncover further details.
