World No Tobacco Day: Siti Fadma Hosts Sports and Cultural Activities to Raise Awareness of the Dangers of Smoking

Celebrating World No Tobacco Day in the Heart of the Ourika Valley

As part of the annual observance of World No Tobacco Day, marked every year on May 31 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners, the On Peut Association for Culture and Mountain Tourism organized an educational and awareness-raising event on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Rural Educational Complex of Siti Fadma in the Ourika Valley, Al Haouz Province. The event brought together local stakeholders, educators, community leaders, and representatives of local authorities.

Official Opening in the Presence of Local Authorities

The ceremony began with a welcome address delivered by Mohamed Friss, a member of the Sports and Cultural Committee, who welcomed attendees, including representatives of the local administration and the Royal Gendarmerie of Siti Fadma. The Moroccan national anthem was then performed, followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, creating an atmosphere of civic engagement and collective commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles.

Cross-Country Race Highlights Emerging Athletic Talent

One of the event’s main attractions was the cross-country race, featuring 4-kilometer and 5-kilometer competitions for both male and female participants.

In the men’s category, Amine Assous secured first place, followed by Imad Al Azaoui in second and Abdelhakim Al Aouad in third. In the women’s category, Nesrine Aït Ben Ali claimed first place, ahead of Latifa Abaach and Amina Abaach.

Taekwondo Demonstrations and Artistic Performances

The program also featured impressive taekwondo demonstrations supervised by coach Hassan Oubla. Participants showcased their skills through dynamic performances that highlighted the sporting potential of local youth.

On the cultural side, young girls from the region performed patriotic and educational songs under the guidance of the On Peut Association. Their performances were warmly received and reflected the rich creative talent found within the community.

Awareness Workshops on the Risks of Tobacco Use

In addition to sports and cultural activities, the event included educational competitions focusing on the harmful effects of smoking on individual and public health. Creative workshops in drawing and model-making using dough-based materials were also organized to encourage children’s creativity while conveying important health messages through engaging and innovative methods.

Awards Ceremony Concludes Successful Event

The event concluded with the presentation of medals and certificates to winners of various sports and cultural competitions, including cross-country running, football, and taekwondo. The festive closing ceremony highlighted the success of the initiative and underscored the importance of such activities in promoting public health awareness and encouraging young people to embrace healthy, tobacco-free lifestyles.
